“Lake Peipsi Project, Pskov” suggests Pskov Mass Media to take part in the environmental contest

Rules for participation in the contest for the best coverage of environmental issues of the Pskov region were discussed on June 4 at the meeting in the Administration of the Region. A videoconference with representatives of regional media was held by the Chairman of the State Committee for Nature of Pskov Region Mr. Sergei Fedorov.

He said that the contest was launched this year, on April 25 . The contest is conducted by the State Committee for Nature of Pskov Region in cooperation with NGO “Lake Peipsi Project, Pskov” that supported by the State Directorate for Information Policy and Public Affairs of the Pskov region.

“The goal of the contest – to draw public attention to environmental issues. The contest allows demonstrating municipal experience, organizing a public discussion of environmental issues” – noted Mr. Fedorov.

The contects accepts journalistic texts (articles or article series) published in the period from January 1 to September 30, 2012 in the municipal districts’ media. The texts must cover the status of environment of the Pskov region: current environmental issues and experience to address them, the protection of the environment, environmental education and public education, volunteer activities in the field of environmental management and other environmental areas.

Best publications will be selected by the jury, which is formed from environmentalists, experts, environmental organizations, representatives of environmental non-governmental organizations, professional journalists. Three winners will be invited to participate in the international environmental conference “Peipsi Forum 2012” and will be encouraged with the monetary award. Awarding of winners will be held in the framework of  the “Peipsi Forum.”

The competition for the best coverage of environmental issues in the media of Pskov region is carried out since 2007. In the last year 50 publications of seven regional newspapers were submitted to the contest.
